Immerse yourself within Minnesota’s vibrant Hmong community through an interactive, in-person experience at the iconic HmongTown Marketplace in St. Paul. This place-based event will introduce you to this market of 125 small businesses, including eleven food vendors. Build on your cultural understanding and awareness by participating in a guided tour and learning from multiple community members and performers. Engage your senses throughout the program. Tour the market and the Hmong Cultural Center Museum’s pop-up exhibit on the history and journey of Hmong people. Enjoy a traditional meal and listen to elder stories and qeej music. Enjoy a special performance by storyteller/artist/activist, Tou Ger Xiong, and learn about Hmong clothing and textiles through a fashion show presented by Bee Vang-Moua. This event will be hosted by Gia Vang from Kare11. This is a collaboration with Hmong Cultural Center and HmongTown Marketplace. Please note: -Admission cost does not include food. -Participants are encouraged to support the financial recovery of small businesses by making purchases from the businesses they learn about on the tour. We recommend bringing cash, as not all vendors accept credit cards. -Members of Minnesota’s Hmong community are welcome to register using promo code HMONG to waive the fee if they wish. -This event is open to all, and children under 16 are welcome to attend at no additional cost, although they may not have access to the tour guide audio units due to limited quantity. Space is limited.
