SoilSHOP Event and Healthy Homes Expo

Ramsey County Public Health is hosting a FREE SoilSHOP event at the East Side YMCA on July 15 from 3PM to 7PM. Amidst the urgent concerns of lead and other metals from pollution impacting the East Side, this is an opportunity for residents to learn more about what’s in their soil. Participants can bring soil gathered from their gardens or outdoor play area(s) and it will be tested for lead. Children can be exposed to lead by swallowing of breathing in lead-contaminated soil while playing. Lead-contaminated soil particles can also be brought inside on shoes, clothing or pets. There will also be a Healthy Homes Expo with educational resources from: Eastside Neighborhood Development Center, MN Tool Library, Minnesota Health Department, Ramsey County Recycling, Food Scraps Program and Fix-It Clinics, Urban Agriculture/Raised Bed Gardens, handmade air filters and information about upcoming workshops.
